My father used to have a saying, “I don’t like sitting still for too long. At my age, I’m afraid I’ll rust in place!” And he lived up to that sentiment, remaining very active until he died. Another common phrase expressing this idea is, “Use it or lose it!” As I get older, I am beginning to see what he was talking about. Our bodies are made to move, and when we don’t get enough movement we soon begin to feel the difference.
The same is true for our spirit! If we don’t commit ourselves to regular “spiritual workouts” we will begin to see a difference here too! In matters of the spirit, however, what we lose with inactivity are things like peace of mind, patience, compassion, a broader perspective, and inner joy.
So, wherever and however you get your physical and spiritual workouts, may you invest the time, effort and sweat needed to keep your body healthy and spirit strong!
Have a great week, everyone!
