Denmark consistently ranks highly when it comes to happiness and satisfaction with life. One possible explanation for this record level of contentment is a word which characterizes something deeply embedded in their culture. The word is “Hygge” (pronounced hue-gah). It’s roots derive from the Norwegian word for “well-being,” and it is all about “living in the moment, appreciating quality, peaceful time in a calm environment with no agenda. It’s about humor, warmth and making connections. It’s about spending time alone and spending time with family.”

It struck me that this is exactly what we are trying to bring to the people we serve. It also struck me how much we need this in our own lives. We all need those relaxed, cozy times enjoying a good meal and laughing with close friends; or curling up with a cup of tea a good book and no agenda.

In the midst of all the hustle and bustle in the world, may we always set aside the time for simple pleasures which feed our souls.

Have a great week, everyone!
Jim
