Event helps those in Tampa Bay with grief and loss of loved ones

November 7, 2015 at 4:30 p.m., Largo Central Park

Clearwater, Fla. – Grief can mean so many different things. It can be a glance at a phone expecting that person to call. It can be a picture carried around in a wallet. It can be a simple reminder from nature.

For the thousands of area residents grieving the loss of loved ones, a sunset can be a daily symbol of the ending of something, and a chance to heal.

Suncoast Hospice, a member of Empath Health, is uniting those in the Tampa Bay area who are grieving at a ‘Sunset Stroll’, encouraging the community to heal through a ‘stroll’ or slow walk and remember the lives held dear in our hearts.

“Suncoast Hospice supports thousands of patients and families across the community each year and events as special as the Sunset Stroll offer a time to reflect, bring the community together and heal,” says Rafael Sciullo, president & CEO of Empath Health.

The Inaugural Sunset Stroll is November 7 and is free to participate, with donations accepted. All donations will benefit Suncoast Hospice and the members of Empath Health.

Special activities include:

  • A sunset luminary release
  • Bereavement support for adults, children and veterans
  • A memory wall
  • Specialized support for those who have lost beloved pets

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the Stroll begins at sunset, followed by a Celebration Event. For more information please call 727-523-3419 or visit SuncoastHospiceFoundation.org/Stroll.

Location: Largo Central Park – 101 Central Park Drive, Largo, Fla. 33771.

Afterglow, by Helen Lowrie Marshall

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways

of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun

of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.
