I heard a story about a refugee from an impoverished 3rd world country going to a grocery store her in the U.S. for the first time. She stood in the cereal aisle, paralyzed by indecision, as she faced the seemingly endless choices colorfully displayed in front of her. It turns out, she is not alone. The plethora of choices we have in this modern world is staggering. With digital photos now, we can snap away until we have thousands of pictures from which to select. The number of entertainment and information options out there is inexhaustible. We have access to virtually every piece of recorded music with the touch of a button. It can be downright overwhelming. It can cause us to be unable to enjoy and savor what is right in front of us because we know that there are so many other options out there waiting for us to explore.
This modern situation is one which calls for discrimination. It calls us to recognize that we have a limited number of choices, and a limited amount of time to make them. May we choose wisely, knowing that these choices will determine the content and quality of our lives!
Have a great week, everyone!
