Inspiring corporations to continue their volunteer service to the greater community, Empath Health recognizes Duke Energy’s support
Clearwater, Fla. (June 15, 2015) – When one thinks about all of the amazing things that non-profits are able to do for those in need, the people-power needed can be staggering. Non-profits can’t do it all alone; it takes a community. That’s why corporations in Tampa Bay truly make a difference in helping our neighbors, friends and relatives.
For example, Empath Health, a non-profit integrated network of care that includes Suncoast Hospice and provides expert, life-changing health care to those with chronic and advanced illnesses, partners with corporations and other groups to find activities that fit a need.
This week, groups of co-workers from Duke Energy will volunteer together on Wednesday to support the Suncoast Hospice Resale Shoppe in Clearwater, where donated items from the community are sold to raise money and support the care and services provided by Empath Health. In addition to selling items, those served by the Empath Health also have access to items they may be in need of, particularly families who have financial constraints.
The three Suncoast Hospice Resale Shoppes are open six days a week, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and are staffed almost entirely by volunteers.
Other corporate volunteers may help at the resale shoppes doing the same type of work or other projects with Empath Health. Projects vary according to a group’s size, location preference, employee skills and interests, time of year, as well as current needs. Examples may include:
- Projects for patients and families (food and/or personal care item drives, yard or home maintenance)
- Community outreach
- Special events
- Administrative projects
“Without the support of our more than 3,000 volunteers, including our corporate partners, we would not be able to serve as many people as we do,” says Rafael Sciullo, president and CEO of Empath Health. “It means so much to everyone here to see major corporations lend their time, a hand, and their hearts to helping others.”

MEDIA OPPORTUNITY: Meet the Duke Energy volunteers at the Suncoast Hospice Resale Shoppe from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1478 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, Florida, 33764. The volunteers will be available for interview and able to talk about why volunteering is important to them.
